Like I mentioned on Friday's post, Marshall surprised me by inviting three of my best friends to fly out here and surprise me on Thursday and stay until Sunday. My friends Leigh, Lori and Laura (apparently I have a thing for girls with "L" names) were picked up from the airport by Marshall and then driven over to my in-laws' vacation house across the street. Marshall had just told me he needed to run an errand and then he returned home. Once he was back at the house, he texted them to walk over. When the doorbell rang he said, "It's for you". I was so shocked by the sight of my friends that I was literally speechless. All three of them were wearing their Twilight shirts, which was pretty ironic considering I was wearing my Twilight pants at the time.
The amazing thing is that Laura has a severe phobia of flying. She doesn't fly. And she reminded Marshall of that fact when he first invited them to visit. But after Lori and Leigh agreed to go, she knew she would regret allowing her fear of flying to prevent her from coming. So Lori and Leigh both flew to Laura's local airport, so they could fly with her out here. I am SO proud of her for getting on a plane to see me!
Laura was one of my three original readers when I started this blog in June 2006. She also adopted from Ethiopia. Lori contacted me to tell me how much she loved our Ethiopian adoption video while she was waiting to bring her Ethiopian daughter home. I met Leigh on Twitter due to our mutual love of Twilight. They all got to know each other from commenting on my Facebook page.
We literally had the time of our lives. I ignored my husband and kids and spent all my time at the in-laws' house with the girls. I got about 6 hours of sleep (total) between the first two nights and pulled an all-nighter their last night here. Man, I am way too old to be pulling all-nighters. But I don't regret it at all because we had a blast. So much so that the LAPD came to the door one night. Ok, well that's not entirely true. Laura was in charge of keeping the house key, which includes the house alarm key fob. As she was walking up to the house, she accidentally hit the panic button for the alarm, without knowing it. I rushed to turn off the alarm and waited for the alarm company to call so I could tell them it was a mistake. But they didn't call us. About 15 minutes later there was a pounding at the door with two LAPD officers outside. Uh, OOPS! Thankfully they were super understanding about the mistake. Ironically about 10 minutes after they left, we got a call from the alarm company. Nice, huh? Anyway, after that Laura had her key-holding privileges revoked. (Love you Laura!)
During our crazy weekend, the girls wanted me to take them to Rodeo Drive. And they told me they better see a celebrity or they'd never come out to visit me again. When we got there, we were very hungry and decided to eat lunch before walking up and down Rodeo. Three of us wanted to eat at Cheesecake Factory, because... well, they have GREAT food! But Lori protested saying there was no way we'd see a celebrity at the Cheesecake Factory. She was out-voted, so we went there for lunch. Now you know how some restaurants have one long bench across the room with several tables very close together? I usually loathe being seated there because you are so close to the other people. But they sat us on the end of the row which wasn't so bad. After our food arrived, they sat another party at the table right next to us. I glanced over and was shocked to see that sitting right next to us was Cam Gigandet, who happens to be the big bad guy in Twilight.

I informed the other girls of his presence and then proceeded to take covert pictures of him with my iPhone.

Oh, but we didn't stop there. Lori handed Leigh her videocamera and Leigh snuck a little footage of Cam while pretending to film Lori and Laura.
I've spotted lots of celebrities in public in my 13 years of living in L.A. so I was definitely not going to go up to him and say anything. But Lori had the guts (after her martini) to go up to him and ask him if he'd take a picture with us. I didn't really care about taking a picture WITH him, so I took the picture of Lori and Laura with him, while Leigh wanted to crawl under the table from embarrassment. Thankfully he was very cool about it all.

Seriously... this was totally crazy. All four of us are Twilight freaks, and the one celebrity we see when we get together, is a main actor in the Twilight movie. Oh, and while we didn't get to see Robert Pattinson, we found out that he flew to L.A. last weekend and flew out of LAX airport the same day Leigh, Laura and Lori did. Coincidence? I think NOT.
Now you may have noticed this picture from yesterday's post...

While Laura and Leigh declined, Lori and I decided to get tattoos together. Laura and Leigh hung out with us to keep us company though. We both got tattoos on our low backs. I got a custom design of three roses. Each one symbolizes one of my children and is in their favorite colors. The red one is for Seamus, the purple one for Marlie and the orange one is for Haven. The kids absolutely LOVE my tattoo and keep asking to see it. They then point out which rose is theirs.
Our visit was way too short and we're all going through serious withdrawal. But we've vowed to make our get-together a yearly event. We are all so thankful to Marshall's parents for letting us use their house. For more pictures of our get-together, check out the slideshow....

How fun! Sooo sweet of Marshall. :D
So fun! And I love the story about your tattoo :) cute!
I can tell that you guys had an awesome time.I love the pictures. It should be a crime for anyone to be as good-looking & photogenic as Cam Gigandet.....
Looks like you had a perfect visit :) I'm so glad that you got to take the time to take care of you!
Meanwhile, I'm loving the tattoo! It's fantastic.
I need to make ONE clarification: Cam was not bothered and was not approached until he had paid his check and was standing to leave. We don't endorse bothering celebrities but given the circumstances we HAD to. I mean...
The other thing I NEED to say is that Edward appears to have had the best time out of all of us and he is really quite photogenic. Doesn't have a bad side or anything.
And, finally, I think (hope) that the camera adds 10 inches to ones nose or else I really am THAT Italian. Dang.
That is fantastic! Marshall rocks, and that Cam guy is HOT! So glad you had so much fun!
Fabulous!!! The meeting of a star from your favorite movie AND the meeting of best friends AFTER 30!!!! This experience causes growth in every arena of your life. It looks like a fun and wild time!
that is awesome, glad you had such a great time!!!
What a fun post and meeting Cam was the icing on the cake!! So excited for you guys!!
So cute! You guys look like SO much fun and WOW Cam is HOT.
WOW,
That Cam guy is really a cutie! Boy did you have a great weekend; Marshall is awesome. How about marketing his DNA?
Glad to see Pocket Edward joined you all in your festivities :-). Fun times!
So glad you girls had a fun weekend! :)
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!
Marshall is so sweet and the pics are so great, blah, blah, blah, but what I really can't get over is that you have Twilight pants!!?? Wow.
(love the tat btw!)
This post is awesome, but it makes me sad... :(
SO COOL!!! I'm so jealous! :)
I've been wondering...what's on Cam's shirt? I saw it in another photo of him that day that some paparazzi took and he had the same stain. Haha. Could have been spit up since he just had a baby.
Looks like you ladies had an awesome time. I think it was divine intervention that you met Cam.
Oh, your hair is definitely the same color as mine.
Wow. Cam is yummy.
How ironic that *that* is who sat next to you. I mean, really.
What an awesome, awesome weekend. Marshall gets the award, for sure.
I'm glad that there is at least ONE picture of me where I'm not squinting. Next time we see a famous person you get to do the filming. That way you won't have to listen to me laughing like a hyena on the clip. ;)
Love you, miss you guys!!!
Usually I look forward to reading your whole entire posts, but this time I sort of got stuck - WHAT?! They made Twilight PANTS?! I'll go back and read the rest later once I'm over that :-)
Wow! How fun!! And I can't even believe how lucky you girls were to spot a Twilight star... at The Cheesecake Factory, no less. Incredible! Looks like you had a great time!!!
I love it! Someone told me about your surprise (not saying who :) and I was so excited for you guys! What a great weekend! And, seriously, that picture of Cam looks like it's posed to be in a magazine or something - with that little smile. *Sigh*
Dude, what a blast! Seriously, I've never seen a group of girls look like they are having so much genuine FUN. And that tattoo made me cry, just GORGEOUS! You go, girl.
You guys are just too, too, too cute.
It looks like you had a great time! I am so jealous that you saw Cam- I love him!!! :D
so amazing Julie! I'm SO glad you girls had such a great time! This makes me miss my trip to visit Nikki so bad!
How sweet was that of Marshall??!!
I am so glad you all had fun-and there is something in the mail for you...keep your eye out! ;)
Love your tat-I would be the one too scared to do that-so I will admire yours!!!
Sounds like you and your friends had such a great time, what a nice surprise. Good hubby. Thanks for making us feel like we were right there enjoying all the fun with you :).
omg. Your husband did that? How insanely thoughtful. That's amazing. I don't think I'm going to be able to get over that. It's going to stick with me for a while. Sounds like a great weekend. I wish I had friends like that. LOVED your pictures. OH and little Edward, he made me lol. Sorry I haven't been back to your blog since BATW. I remember the purple house post. :) I will be back. Man. Your husband is awesome. I can't believe he did that. Wow. (jealous)
Ok, now the three different colored (non purple) roses make sense. And are totally acceptable :)
And that top that ummm whoever's on your back is wearing? I own that one and love it!
I LOVE reading about weekends like this one! That was just nine kinds of awesome, and I am so happy for you. You totally deserved an amazing weekend with amazing friends.
And Cam! Too cool!
Don't let fear of flying stop Laura. Ask her to read the articles on dealing with the fear at www.fearofflying.com/wordpress
That is so cool! Sounds like you all had an awesome weekend. Cracking up that you ran into a Twilight star. Love it! and what a cutie he is too.
While I appreciate the effort, someone needs to work on their covert video skills, and get more of the intended subject matter in the film itself!! But the picture you snagged w/ his permission is AWESOME!
I had some ETH mamas visit in April, and they came complete w/ "pocket Edward" whom we posted and clothed and played w/ all weekend. Note: if you put pocket Edward in a sink and blow bubbles w/ a straw its like he's in a jacuzzi!
Totally cool that you all got to hang out together. With Edward no less.
Kudos to Marshall!
What a great weekend it looks like you had! I'm a friend of Laura's and I'm glad she was able to get on that plane! Isn't Pocket Edward the most fun??!!
Oh Julie, that sounds like SO much fun. I want to comment on so many topics. The twilight - cheesecake factory story is quite crazy. And so funny! I laughed listening to the video footage. You girls are a riot. Also, I LOVE your tatoo. I've been wanting to get one and I think yours is fabulous. You look great by the way; you are one smoking mama! And Marshall, again, is wonderful for putting this together for you :).
I am so glad you had this "kind" of weekend. How cool is that? and who you just happened to run into.
Your hubby is tha man!
How cool is all that? Your hubby rocks for setting it up. I love mine and all but I don't think he'd ever be able to pull something like this off, nevermind even think of it! lol
Looks like you guys had a real blast. And what are the odds that it would be Cam who sat next to you!?
Love that tattoo also. I've been wanting to get one for a while now but still not totally decided on what or where, though I want something in it to be related to my kids. I'm hitting a milestone bday this year and thought it would be a fun way to celebrate.
